Growth Scan and Biophysical Profile

Pregnant women with high-risk pregnancies might need to undergo extra checks on their babies. An ultrasound test that includes fetal heart rate monitoring is the biophysical profile (BPP).

Biophysical profiles are noninvasive prenatal diagnostic tests performed after the 28th week of pregnancy to evaluate the fetus’ health.

Why Biophysical Profile Testing is Done?

Pregnancy can be detected with this test during the latter stages. The procedure is more commonly used when the mother has gone past her due date to ensure the fetal’s well-being. In some cases, it is done as a precaution after problems in a previous pregnancy or because of high-risk factors such as previous pregnancy loss in the second half of pregnancy, high blood pressure, diabetes, intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR), Your doctor may also suggest a BPP if you have lupus, kidney disease, or hyperthyroidism.
