Serum Screening 

A maternal serum screening is a blood test used to identify pregnancies at greater risk of having a chromosome condition, such as Down syndrome. Screening for serum can take place during the first trimester, called combined first-trimester screening (CFTS), or during the second trimester. Both are not necessary. The quadruple test (also known as the quadruple screen test or quadruple blood test) is a screening test that takes place between 14 and 20 weeks of pregnancy. This screening test checks your chances of having a baby born with Down’s syndrome.

How do I schedule an appointment for a first-trimester screening?

A test called “instant risk assessment” requires you to collect your own blood at least 7 days before your sonogram appointment. You will receive your results on the day of your sonogram. During the second option, you will undergo a blood draw and sonogram on the same day, and your results will be provided to your obstetrician within one week of your appointment.
